Residential & Commercial Drainage Services
Drainage Services
Our very first directional boring and plumbing jobs were drainage. Over the years, we have installed thousands of drainage systems, ranging from simple extensions of residential downspouts to storm sewer connections.
Directional boring is a simple and cost-effective solution to install drainage piping over long distances while maintaining a constant pitch and going across obstacles.
Drainage Design and Installation
Great drainage systems start with a great design. We look at your yard and structure to assess current grading, downspouts, sump pumps, and other factors that may contribute to flooding issues on your property. We then look for locations where the water can be discharged off your property. From here we formulate a design that encompasses piping, inlets, drains, and connection points to relocate the water from problem areas to an optimal area where it can leave the property.
Upon completing your drainage design we will draft a proposal for the total cost and scope of the project. We will discuss the budget allotted for the work to be completed and, if accepted, install a complete drainage system for you.
Quality Materials & Installation
A drainage system is only as good as the installer you choose and the materials put in the ground. We use SDR26 PVC pipe with gasket joints exclusively to prevent root intrusion or fittings cracking over time. We don’t use any corrugated piping or cheaper/thinner SDR35 PVC that can lead to crushed pipes or an unmaintainable system in the future. We typically install concrete or clay manholes and inlets.
Many contractors choose to install smaller plastic basins and inlets to save cost and time for installation. Through experience, we have found that, besides looking unprofessional, these materials tend to heave during the winter months and change elevations rendering them useless come springtime.
An often-overlooked part of a lifetime drainage system is the installation of the piping itself. We have a saying that “gravel is cheap”. It is extremely important to properly “bed” the piping as it is installed. Installing the piping on loose excavated soil and then backfilling over the top with dirt can lead to pressure on the pipe and fittings as well as “sags” or “bellies” in the system being installed. When we install piping, it is always backfilled with a considerable amount of compacted crushed stone to prevent future movement of the piping and fittings.
Full-Service Installation
Our installations do not leave you with a mess when we are done. We completely backfill all excavations, compact the soil and gravel, and sod any turf areas. We specialize in high-end installations in finished yards that require finesse and regularly leave our job sites looking as good or better than when we arrived.
Underground Electric Services
Underground electric services include electrical wiring and appliance installation. Our services are typically routed underground using buried conduits or cables to ensure safety, reliability, and aesthetic appeal. Underground electrical power lines provide electricity to homes, making it important to have professionally done.
Trenchless Installation
Our technicians use trenchless installations for all of our jobs. Trenchless installation methods offer several advantages, including less disruption to property, faster project completion, and cost savings due to minimized excavation and restoration work. The most common jobs we complete with trenchless installations are:
- Directional Boring. Boring involves drilling a pilot hole from one point to another and then enlarging the hole to accommodate pipes, conduits, or cables. This method is often used for installing utility lines, such as water, sewer, gas, and telecommunication lines.
- CIPP. Cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) involves installing a flexible liner coated with resin into an existing pipe. The liner is then cured, creating a new pipe within the old one. This method is used for rehabilitating and repairing deteriorating pipes.
Low Impact Installation
“Low impact to both landscape and hardscape” refers to construction or development practices that minimize or reduce the negative effects on both natural landscapes and hardscapes (roads, sidewalks, and buildings). All of our technicians are trained in low-impact work–we make sure that any job we complete leaves your property looking like new.
North Shore Boring follows 3 main principles when it comes to low-impact jobs:
- Preservation. Efforts are made to retain your home’s existing natural features, such as trees, vegetation, and natural drainage systems.
- Minimize Disturbance. Our services are designed to minimize disruption to the existing landscape and hardscape. This can involve careful planning to avoid unnecessary excavation or alteration of terrain.
- Cost Savings. Although the initial setup may have costs, the overall savings in reduced labor, restoration, and equipment expenses can be significant.
Sump Pump Systems
We occasionally run into a scenario where we cannot install a system that will drain by gravity. Although we typically do not like to install outdoor pumps, they may be necessary to rid an area of water. We supply and install Metropolitan Industries pump systems and lift stations to eject water from areas where there is no deeper discharge location.
These systems are designed to be both redundant and durable to offer dependable operation with longer service intervals. However, even the best pump system cannot compete with a properly installed gravity drainage solution.
Basement Flooding
Installing a sump pump with a pit in the basement can help remove excess water that accumulates, preventing water from flooding the space. Our professionals use gravity installations when possible to set up a sump pump system in a way that utilizes the force of gravity to assist in the removal of water from a basement or lower area.
Repairs
Our certified team is able to handle most boring-related repair jobs, including:
- CIPP Lining Repairs. CIPP stands for Cured-In-Place Pipe and involves installing a new lining or “pipe within a pipe” inside the existing damaged pipeline.
- Jetting. Jetting is a high-pressure water cleaning method used to clear blockages, debris, and buildup from pipes, and drains.
- General Pipe Cleaning. General cleaning and maintenance are used to clean clogged or slow-draining pipes.
- General Pipe Repairs. General repair services are needed for cracked, broken, clogged, or slow-draining pipes.
- Televising. Televising allows our team to examine the interior of your pipes and drains. This lets us assess the condition of your pipes, identify any issues, and allows us to determine the appropriate course of action for maintenance, repair, or replacement.
Televising and locating
Televising allows our team to examine the interior of your pipes and drains. This lets us assess the condition of your pipes, identify any issues, and allows us to determine the appropriate course of action for maintenance, repair, or replacement.
Our professional electricians are able to use televising for:
- Accurate Diagnoses. Get a clear view of your pipe’s condition. Our technicians accurately diagnose issues without the need for unnecessary excavation.
- Quick Planning. Visual information obtained from the inspection helps us plan targeted repairs or maintenance, minimizing disruption and costs.
- Preventive Maintenance. We will also identify potential issues before they worsen– saving you from costly repairs and unexpected problems.
Minimized Disruption. All of our pipe televising and locating is non-invasive and reduces the need for extensive digging or exploratory work.
